A Gregg Mitchley Foundation initiative
About Count Me In
A Gregg Mitchley Foundation initiative.
A long-term community mobilisation and preventative education effort — built to turn concern into practical, sustainable action.
Our story
From concern to action.
COUNT ME IN was established following growing public concern about violence and the wider social conditions that contribute to it in South Africa.
The initiative was developed to move beyond awareness and social-media commentary towards practical, sustainable action — supporting communities before destructive behaviour becomes entrenched.
The programme is led by the Gregg Mitchley Foundation and is not an independent organisation.
2027
A school pilot is being explored.
Schools are the preferred initial delivery channel. No schools, events or partnerships have been confirmed — these discussions are still in development.
Our purpose
Prevention is better than cure.
The programme focuses on grassroots prevention, education, engagement and community mobilisation. Its purpose is to strengthen relationships, encourage accountability and support healthier communities before destructive behaviour becomes entrenched.
Our approach
How we intend to work.
These are planned development phases. They describe how COUNT ME IN intends to build its programme — not completed achievements.
-
Phase 01
Listen
Gather stakeholder input and identify community needs.
-
Phase 02
Learn
Analyse findings and consult relevant professionals.
-
Phase 03
Design
Develop evidence-informed programme content.
-
Phase 04
Pilot
Test programmes through selected schools and communities.
-
Phase 05
Scale
Refine successful approaches and explore wider implementation.
Schools complement families rather than replace them. They are a natural meeting point for the people who shape a young person's world.
Why schools?
A natural place to start.
Schools provide opportunities to engage children, parents, educators, coaches and established communities in one place.
The programme intends to explore school-based prevention initiatives and positive role-model engagement, informed by research and professional input.
An inclusive initiative
Come as you are.
COUNT ME IN welcomes people regardless of gender, race, nationality, religion, socioeconomic background or political affiliation.
The programme is non-political and non-sectarian. It encourages accountability without stereotyping, and never associates violence with any particular group.
